Flourish Holiday Gift Guide
Give the gift of gardening this year!
Shopping for your favorite gardener (even if that gardener is you) has never been easier. Our gift guide below highlights high quality products that stand out for beginners, backyard farmers, native plants lovers, and master gardeners.
Beginner Gardeners: Start Smart, Start Strong
Look for sets with a wide and narrow trowel, cultivator, weeder, pruner, gloves, and optional Hori Hori knife.
Trenching Shovel, Transfer Shovel, and Rake
Hot take: Spades aren't always the best tool. Trenching and transfer shovels are more versatile for most tasks.
Great options include 'Square Foot Gardening', 'Nature’s Best Hope', and 'Kitchen Garden Revival'.
Good Flexible Hose or High Quality Watering Can
Avoid crimp-prone hoses or or leaky watering cans. Look for lightweight, flexible, and kink-resistant hoses and durable metal watering cans.
For those eager to learn, I provide individualized 1:1 garden coaching. Not only can I get self-professed “black thumbs” to their first harvest, we have fun too!
For Outdoor Growers Forced Indoors
Especially great for seed starts, herbs or microgreens; This set up is adjustable and Vego is a local Texas brand. What's not to love?
Self-Watering Timers (Indoor and Outdoor)
Ensure that your plants stay watered and happy while you're away.
Johnny's Seeds Mini Greenhouse Kit - A much smaller footprint than the Vego kit and more reliable than what I've seen on Amazon, this kit is perfect when you're growing less than 24 seedlings.
Seeds! — Winter is when every grower buys seeds. A gift certificate to Johnny's, Pinetree, or Baker Creek would make any gardener jump for joy.
Winter Veggie Tunnels — If you're growing in the cold (and you should!), a winter tunnel is a must. Amazon has deals on a number of smaller scale tunnels but you can also build your own from #10-gage corrosion resistant wire and some clips. A great DIY project.
DIY Garden Structures — Sometimes the best gifts are made. Start constructing the next season for your loved one with raised bed kits, trellis bundles, or cattle panel arch kits.
For the Native Plant Enthusiast
Native American Seed Packs — Support biodiversity (and a Texas business) with wildflower and prairie blends.
Any Doug Tallamy book - They probably already have one but his newest, The Nature of Oaks, is incredible.
NPSOT/Texas Master Naturalist Classes— Give the gift of training and community.
For the Master Gardener
Cutting Tools from Felco or ARS — Precision pruners, snips, or harvest knives that last a lifetime. I dearly love mine and I use them every day.
Upgrading to these bright and durable seed trays, microgreen trays, and blocks will make you a better, happier gardener. It's magic!
Hint: These are on my list this year!
Goatskin or Leather Gauntlet Gloves — For the mighty warriors that do battle with roses or citrus, this will keep their hands and arms from getting snagged. I loved these so much I bought them twice.
Vego Garden Beds and Greenhouses (on sale!) — Sleek, modular, and ideal for serious growers. Don’t sleep on the self watering rolling citrus tree planters!
Flourish Consult Visit — Even master gardeners need help and fresh perspective. Our onsite consults are 1:1 problem solving sessions where we address everything from plant placement to pest issues. Offer a season of support with a gift card or voucher.
Gardening Group Membership - Sign them up for the local garden club or society, especially those that focus on a few areas like Native Plant Society of Texas or Houston Herb Society. Sometimes the best gift is to connect a gardener to a community that they can learn and grow with.
