Rain Gardem

Every Houston homeowner or renter has a spot in their backyard that retains water. This is a place that gets muddy in the rain and may even hold standing water after the rain passes. While most landscapers would suggest adding a drain, we at Flourish suggest trying a rain garden. A rain garden is a depressed garden with well draining soil and water loving plants that filter the water back into the water table, reducing run off. We built the one below to accommodate Houston natives and a path that kept our clients feet dry when they had to reach the fence.

Design + Rain + Natives

When I saw this area, I first noticed the canna lilies on the right. They LOVE water, which made me think that it could be beautiful if I got more water loving plants here.

The path was a must for people to traverse and enjoy, and I really love the mix of the gravel with paver stones to add some polish.

The native plantings were purchased at Green Star Wetland Plant Farm in Alvin, TX. A mix of shrubs, flowers, and grasses will grow in lush and attract pollinators.
